THE INDIA PROJECT

India is one of the most photographed countries in the world. Since colonial times and continuing into the post-colonial moment, India has been seen mostly though the lens exoticism: emphasizing its poverty, people in colourful textiles, landscapes and natural beauty. However, India is also the fastest-growing major market in the ‘developing world’ and is expected to overtake Russia in 2007. Technology has become one of India’s largest exports with Bangalore being the country’s ‘Silicone Valley’. At its current growth rate, there will be half a billion mobile subscribers in India by 2010.The India Project (in progress) is a series of stills, tourist snapshots, photographed with a mobile phone while traveling through southern India in January of 2006.
